The Scooter Jacket Alternative
August 31, 2008
The introduction of the motorized scooter by the Italian company Vespa in the 1960s gave birth to a scooter sub culture that reached across Europe, the UK and on to the States. Scooters could be seen taking over the streets and were especially prevalent in the hip, artsy communities within Paris and London, and as far reaching as San Francisco.
The genisis of the scooter culture was best exemplified in Quadrophenia by the Who, released in 1979. The rock opera tells the story of the mod revolution in the UK, the gang wars that erupted in the 1960s between the Rockers and the Mods, and the emergence of the scooter culture with all the lifestyle and fashion statements that came with it.
The scooter jacket as a direct spin off of the scooter culture is best defined by its Euro Style collar, a strip of material encircling the neck and fastening shut with a snap. Jackets can be made from the traditional leather or from synthetic or natural fabrics as fashion dictates.
In 1985, Vespa abandoned the U.S. market in favor of Europe, and as gas prices continued their painful rise, the European communities and the UK adopted the scooter as a cheaper form of transportation, while Americans indulged their love of SUVs.
Re entering the U.S. market in 2000, Vespa expected to cater to a new generation of hungry college students and twenty somethings looking for a cheap mode of transportation. What they found was a much more well to do market in the nostalgic Baby Boomers, reliving their younger days of bright and shiny scooters and motor bikes in general.
With the latest gas price hike of 2008, and increasing concern over the environment, middle class Americans are selling their SUVs and looking for alternative modes of transportation, and once again the scooter is thriving. Scooters are being seen more and more in urban environments, as people from all walks of life find a cheaper, more fun way to commute.
Following the scooter movement is the reemergence of the leather scooter jacket, as scooterists realize the need for body protection against the weather and the road.
Today’s modern scooter jackets offer an alternative to the traditional biker look. Scooter jackets come in a variety of materials, but just as in any type of bike riding, care should be given to protection from the elements and the road.
For that reason, the scooter jacket that is made from a quality leather material is considered to be an integral part of scooter safety gear, recommended to be worn with a full face protective helmet.
As the scooter culture merges with the mainstream, not everybody considering a scooter for transportation is your typical Mod, Rocker, or Biker type personality. One estimate has as many as 40% of new scooter purchases being made by women.
Scooterists of today span generations and coexist with a multitude of lifestyles. Scooter clubs, rallies, websites and forums are popping up all over the place, even scooter racing has taken afoot.
As an alternative to the traditional biker look, the scooter jacket exudes a respectable, conservative style that has become the signature of scooter culture, and popular with people from all walks of life.

Motorcycle Racing Jackets
August 31, 2008
As the popularity of Extreme Sports continues its rise, the concept of Motorcycle Racing has taken on new meaning. From road racing to Grand Prix, to motocross, supercross, and freestyle competition, one thing is for sure: if you race, you are going to fall off your bike on one or more occasions.
That being said, todays motorcycle racing jackets and apparel are designed taking this into consideration, and they compensate by giving you the best possible protection in the most likely places prone to injury. The basic principal is to design garments that will pad the most vulnerable body parts, and allow for a clean slide on asphalt or dirt without bunching up or tearing to shreds.
Racing jackets will and should come with some kind of body armor either fixed inside the jacket, or removable. Armor comes in different forms, from thick foams, to plastic covered compounds, to hard, shock absorbing rubbers.
When considering the purchase of a racing jacket and/or suit, make sure the armor is CE approved. Certifique Europe is a European standard of certification that grades armor on three levels, level 1 being the least protective, level 3 the most.
At the very least, a racing jacket should have protective armor at the shoulders and elbows, and pants should have extra protection at the knee and hip. In the case of a two piece racing suit, the bottom will often be zipped to the jacket, to allow the garment to act as one piece during a slide.
Back protectors are not often found in racing jackets, but there is in some jackets a place to insert one. Since most spinal injuries are caused by blows to the extremities as opposed to direct impact to the back, the back protector is better suited for protection from flying projectiles, and thus is often made from hard plastics.
Another major consideration for a racing jacket is the comfort factor.
Motorcycle jackets are usually made from a combination of materials, the basis of which is leather. Kevlar stitching can be used to insure the strength of the seams, and patches of Kevlar or other high stress synthetic materials are used on particularly vulnerable areas like the shoulders, elbows and knees. Stretch panels of various materials are often employed at strategic locations such as under the arms and at the knee to promote ease of movement in extreme conditions.
Because black leather has a natural tendency to be hot, racing jackets tend to be more colorful than your typical black leather jacket, using combinations of colors, obviously to attract attention to a particular racer, but also in part to reflect the heat of the suns rays. Some racing jackets employ perforated leather to allow the air to penetrate the jacket, and air vents are often used to provide circulation.
With modern synthetics gaining in popularity, many racers are choosing these tough and durable materials over leather because of their coolness, light weight, and waterproof characteristics. It is not uncommon to find legitimate racing gear that forego the use of leather altogether.
Whereas todays modern day motorcycle racing apparel employ all the technological know how to keep the racer safe and comfortable, racing jackets are also popular within the traditional biker community. A little bit of extra armor never hurts, and because many jackets use removable armor, you don’t have to look so robotic at your local biker bar.
Additionally, you don’t have to be stick with basic black, the colorful styles often found in the racing jacket genre add another layer of coolness for the biker to choose from!

Motorcycle Touring Jackets
August 31, 2008
While not a particular style in its own right, the motorcycle touring jacket rather encompasses all styles, and is designed for the long haul with the comfort and protection of the rider as the first and foremost priority.
As such, you will find traditional touring jackets, touring scooter jackets, cruiser styles, and even well armored racing style jackets all made from the finest of leathers and the best craftsmanship.
The touring jacket concept assumes that the rider will be spending long hours on the road, perhaps up to eight or more, and rightly deserves to be as comfortable as possible. Being exposed to the elements for such lengthy stretches of time also necessitates the use of the best of material for comfort and safety.
For these reasons, a good leather touring jacket will usually be offered in top or full grain naked buffalo or cowhide, and can reach thicknesses of up to 2mm.
The importance of a good, thick leather jacket cannot be overemphasized in the case of an unintended slide across an asphalt road, and for safety reasons, touring jackets will often be offered with a matching pair of chaps. Because of the quality of design and material used, a good touring jacket will obviously be on the high end of the price range, and will often be adorned with braiding, Conchos and other forms of decorative craftsmanship.
Of course, the individual tourer has all the options available with all styles of motorcycle jackets, and can choose according to the conditions the rider expects to be touring in. It is a given that any upper range touring jacket will start with a zip out lining, so choose a jacket with plenty of vents for warmer climate, side laces and neck warmers for colder ones.
For your comfort and protection, many modern day touring jackets offer removable protectors at the shoulders and elbows. Look for the CE approval. Some styles even offer a built in kidney belt, a welcomed addition by anyone spending long hours on a bike.
Ease of movement is also addressed by the addition of stretch panels under the arms and/or sides. Also look for stretch material in your touring chaps or pants. Sudden movements and quick reaction to events on the road should not be impeded by your touring apparel.
Just as any style of motorcycle jacket can be called a touring jacket, so can they be offered in lesser grades of leather such as top grain, or even the soft light weight leathers of lambskin, sheep or goat. For the non rider that just likes the look, this is fine. For the biker that makes shorter trips, or only rides sporadically but likes a particular touring jacket style, the less expensive grains of buffalo and cow are also perfectly suitable.
Bikers that spend long hours on the road, whether for business or pleasure, out of choice, or necessity, should seriously consider the higher grade naked leather touring motorcycle jackets and apparel. Consider them essential pieces of your motorcycle safety gear. Dont skimp on your leathers – they could some day save your hide.
Many factors come into consideration when pondering the purchase of a new motorcycle jacket. The purpose of a motorcycle jacket is utilitarian as well as style. The fashion industry has taken the demands of the biker community and come up with a set of styles suitable in general to all, and specifically designed for the kind of riding you do.
The choice is up to you. Find the style that fits your riding, determine the material best suited for you, then add or subtract the vents, laces, pockets and belts. After that, it’s all about the look, so by all means, be as cool as you can be!

Juice It Up!
We all know that we should eat healthy. Statistic after statistic, news reports, even movies about fast food over indulgence have been sending the message over the last several years to Americans that we’re overweight, we’re unhealthy and it’s going to kill us if we don’t shape up. Well one company is doing something to make Americans a bit healthier by providing a tasty way to fill up on fruit, veggies and vitamins and the response has been overwhelming. Juice It Up! Started out as a “California style” juice bar serving up blended smoothies to their customers who at the time were mostly young professionals. Since then, they’ve expanded through a series of franchises, added plenty more tasty and healthy recipes and have begun to attract a much wider demographic ranging from young children to senior citizens and everyone in between. Why so much success? Juice It Up! Takes ingredients that are good for you and turns them into a smoothie that tastes great. It’s a win/win.
Hopefully you found a niche market franchise that caught your attention. These niche markets often can appear at first glance to not be worth the investment, but for the majority of them their advantage is the niche market. Opening a new business is hard, especially when you face stiff competition from a handful of other companies offering the same goods and services as you, but with a niche market franchise you can be the only game in town and build loyalty and a strong customer base. Finally, consider that starting a small business from scratch is pretty tough, but all of these businesses have made it work and are now ready to pass everything they’ve learned on to you and with that comes their name to back it up. Of course there are no guarantees of success, but a new small business with a flourishing franchise will give you the best odds for success that you’ll find anywhere.

7 New Business Opportunities for the Animal Lover
August 31, 2008
There’s nothing an animal lover enjoys more than getting to spend time with their favorite furry friend and with a pet franchise you can spend plenty of time with animals while making great profits for yourself. There are quite a few new and exciting business opportunities for the animal lover these days and regardless of your business experience, if you have a love of animals and the drive and desire to own your own business, then you have what it takes to startup your own pet franchise. As a franchisee you’ll spend plenty of time playing with the dogs and providing a safe and stimulating environment for them through the day care, training classes, spa services and retail sales.
Kennelwood
Recognized as on of the finest pet resorts in the world, Kennelwood pet resort provides a safe and healthy “vacation” for your dog in a truly amazing environment that makes ordinary kennels and dog boarding services seem like animal cruelty. From their award winning grooming services and professional training to the doggie day camp and personalized play times, dogs love Kennelwood so much that they often pull their owners into Kennelwood on return visits.
Doo Care
Although it may not seem glamorous, the dog waste market is rapidly expanding in metropolitan markets and is a relatively untapped area of the service sector. Doo Care provides waste removal for busy families, the elderly or any of the nearly 50 million dog owners in America. With such a high demand and very few businesses stepping in, it’s easy to see how a Doo Care franchise could really clean up.
Pet Depot
With the slogan, “Where animals come first” Pet Depot is a retail pet store chain that provides customized, personal service to their customers and with nearly 60% of all households owning at least one pet, the retail pet market has never been bigger. Wild Bird Centers
We’ve looked at quite a few franchises that cater to dogs, but if you’re a bird lover you may want to consider a pet franchise with Wild Bird Centers. With the highest average sales and lowest cost of goods in the specialty birding industry, Wild Bird Centers is by far the winning choice in this niche market. If your knowledge of birds is lacking, but you’re still interested in this unique franchise, Wild Bird Centers will provide you with comprehensive training about the ins and outs of their franchise businesses and they’ll also teach you everything you need to or ever wanted to know about birds.

Camp Bow Wow

The Advantages of Leasing an Auto
August 30, 2008
The basic concept of leasing autos is very simple. Most of the automobile customers are not aware of it and are often skeptical about leasing their vehicles. The concept of leasing autos is misunderstood and clever dealers often take the advantage of this misunderstanding and use it to make extra money.
There are various experts, who provide advice against leasing autos. These experts convince people that leasing autos is similar to renting autos. These experts use this strategy as a quick method to promote their businesses.
Many people believe leasing vehicles is the same as renting them, which is not true. Some people do not have any knowledge about the leasing procedure and few people take illegal advantage of this lack of knowledge.
Advantages Of Vehicle Leasing:
There are many advantages of leasing a vehicle. It is also an excellent substitute to purchasing an automobile. Some of benefits are as follows:
1. Low monthly installments: You pay for a small portion of the vehicle that you use. Thus, the monthly installments are very low in comparison to the purchase loan of the same auto.
2. More vehicles, Very often: As the monthly installments are very low, you have the flexibility to change your vehicle at the same price in every four years, which depends on the term and length of the lease.
3. Less maintenance headaches: Most people play it safe by choosing a term, which coincides with the warranty period of the vehicle. In this way, the repairing cost is covered, as it comes under the warranty.
4. Most of the leases require no or little down payment. This makes purchasing a new vehicle very affordable and you have some cash remaining to make some more purchases. However, you may decide to pay down payments or use the old vehicle to lower the monthly installments too.
5. Low taxes: In some parts of the Unites States and Canada, you do not have to pay sales tax on the entire amount on vehicles on lease, in comparison to vehicles you purchase.
6. No hassles of used-car: With the leasing process, you are free of hassles such as selling used automobiles. You simply need to return the vehicle to the company you bought from. You always have an option of purchasing and trading the vehicle later in a vehicle leasing system.
Other Things To Remember:
The key to intelligent vehicle leasing is to understand the process of leasing. Do not take decisions in a hurry. Learn how to use leasing as a benefit and not as a disadvantage.
If you do not have the basic concept of leasing automobiles, you are bound to make mistakes. Sometimes you may end up with overpayment or even become a part of a cheating process unknowingly.
It is a process of financing similar to loans. You will be committing the biggest mistake, if you assume leasing automobiles is similar to leasing house or renting an apartment. Do not attempt to proceed with leasing a vehicle without any knowledge regarding the same. This will only lead to great trouble.

Compost Needs Compost Screens
August 30, 2008
Compost screens are the best way to get material into a much more useable state. When making compost for commercial use, or even personal use, it is essential to sift the debris from the compost. Compost screens can save individuals hours of arduous labor and can be extremely efficient and economical for commercial use. This essential tool comes in a variety of sizes and capabilities. From the build it yourself models that homeowners can put together, to industrial size screeners that do more than just screen compost, compost screeners are available in a variety of sizes to suit every need.
Typically, compost screens are used as sifters that remove debris and unwanted objects from compost. Compost screens can come in a variety of sizes and uses. It is even possible for individuals with small scale use of compost to build their own compost screens. These do it yourself kits can take under an hour to prepare and can help alleviate hours and hours of unnecessary manual sifting. Conversely, compost screens are also available in industrial size models and can be used to sift through large amounts of compost.
Industrial size compost screens can be pricey but can also come with a variety of functions. Some of the industrial size screens have built in conveyer systems which can help alleviate some of the workload from the operator and double productivity. This compost screener can also be used as topsoil screens and gravel screens. The unique conveyer belt technology is used to remove the debris and place it in a designated area. It can stack the debris several feet high. This eliminates the operator task of having to stop production to remove debris periodically. This industrial compost screen allows the operator to have one job: loading the screener. With this technology, productivity is only dependent on the efficiency of screen loading instead of the dual efficiency of loading the screen and removing the debris.
Homebuilt compost screens are not quite as advanced but can still save homeowners hours of manual labor. Regardless of how the debris is removed, the most effective compost is sifted through. This can be done by hand or with a sifter. Instead of manually sifting through compost, a compost screen can do the work for you! Compost screens offer low cost options and can even be built out of common household objects. Why go through the trouble of manually picking out the debris when a compost screen can do the work quicker and more efficiently!
Compost screens are the most efficient way to remove unwanted debris and foreign objects from compost, and are the best way to get compost material into a much more useable state. The size and range abilities of compost screens differ dramatically. A screen can be found to fit any compost need. Whether the task is a small home project or a large commercial function, compost screens can provide operators with an efficient way to maximize productivity and minimize waste. Industrial size compost screens can also be used for a variety of functions to ensure maximal efficiency and work load. Regardless of the workload, compost screens are the answer to your compost needs.

Beat the Upcoming Recession With These Recession Busting Ideas
August 30, 2008
The dreaded “r” word, recession.
When the economy follows a downward trend and there’s even less money left in your bank account than you’d like.
Lots of businesses hate recession. Any business that has wafer thin margins dreads an economic downturn. So does any business that isn’t an absolute necessity (for instance, someone selling that extra large double latte) is fair game for problems.
So what to do?
How can you make sure that you come out of the recession not only alive but thriving?
Start by examining your business (or the extra business you want to get into).
Do people need your product? Will it help them save money or make extra money? Or will it provide some cheap and innocent pleasure to help take their mind off their worries for a short time?
Next up, is your business likely to be profitable? Can you actually earn any money from it? Is there a good margin to be achieved or are you likely to be the next road-kill victim when a bigger competitor shreds their prices?
Potentially, an internet business can tick most or even all the boxes for a recession proof business.
If you choose electronic products such as music tracks, electronic books and reports, software downloads and so on then there’s no stock holding. Most of these areas can be good ones for either pleasure or helping people make money.
Internet businesses can also offer high margins. Not every one - Amazon only pays a few percentage points, for instance - but many products offer profit margins that would make a regular retailer turn green with envy.
Advertising costs can be low on the internet as well. Sure, they can be high if you want them to be - just open an account with Google Adwords if you want to go down the “open wallet” advertising route.
But there are still lots of ways to get the word out on the internet that are free or very close to free.
Articles like this one cost a bit of time typing but not much else.
Helping in forums is another cheap way to get the word out - be careful not to spam forums, otherwise you’ll get your account banned, but taking a little bit of time to help others is almost always repaid and you’d be surprised how little effort it takes to turn yourself from “newbie” to “trusted expert”.
Commenting on other people’s blogs is another way to get the word out for the products you’re promoting.
Writing your own blog is free or nearly free. Aim for at least a post a day and you’ll soon find the search engines buzzing round your site like bees round a honey pot. And writing your own blog gives you somewhere to send the people you’re helping elsewhere - all you need to do on a forum, for instance, is give a brief reply and then say something like “I don’t want to clog up this forum with a long reply, so check out my blog for a longer answer”.
Do some or all of these things in an industry that doesn’t wilt at the first sign of a recession and you’ll come out the other end of the economic downturn with more cash than you know what to do with!
For more ideas on beating the upcoming recession, check out my Recession Rescue System review.
