Carpooling to Work
July 31, 2008
Thousands more people every month are making the decision to start carpooling with fellow employees to work, especially when they commute to work. Typically people who commute thirty minutes or longer each way should try to make sure that they carpool to work. The environment is becoming more fragile each and everyday and without people doing the right thing, which is protecting it then soon there will terrible consequences. If you value the world and everyone you care about then you should care about the air we all breathe in on a daily basis. If you can help the environment become a safer place by carpooling to work then don’t you think you could make the adjustment to driving with a co-worker to work?
There are now lots of carpool parking lots where you can take your vehicle to and park it for the day while at work and then after work you get dropped off at it and continue home. If enough people started doing this then soon the environment would start becoming a more pleasant place to live. It takes more then a handful of people from different regions to make a difference and everyone needs to unite as one on this situation and try doing something about it.
The government has now begun opening up lanes of most major highways for commuters travelling with more then one passenger in the vehicle. This means if you carpool to work you can use the commuter lane which is basically an express lane that will help you beat rush hour traffic. The time it takes to stop at a carpool parking lot you’ll now start saving by being able to drive in a much less congested lane of the highway. A lot of people only began carpooling because they would then be able to avoid rush hour traffic, and if this is what it takes for people to start helping the environment then so be it. As long as the governments continue adding carpooler lanes onto major highways I feel more and more people will start adapting to carpooling.
Another reason it seems carpooling is becoming more popular is due to the increase in gas prices that everyone is dealing with. A lot of people can’t afford the gas prices that are currently present in most countries and with this a lot of people are forced to carpool. Now although high gas prices aren’t meant to help the environment through more people carpooling, it would as though indirectly it’s been done.
There are lots of reasons why you should be carpooling to work with fellow co-workers and many of them involve you saving time and money so there is really no reason why more people don’t start carpooling. If you save money and time then there isn’t much else that can be offered to entice you to saving the environment, so if this doesn’t do it what will be needed? I hope people can begin to start coming to their senses and start working towards cleaning the environment up.
Getting the Best Deal on Your New Car
July 31, 2008
Purchasing a new car is always an exciting experience whether you are looking to buy a used or new one. If you are concerned about price or simply enjoy getting the most bang for your buck, it is important that you understand how to best navigate through the process and get the best deal on your new car. If you don’t know where to begin, don’t worry. We have done all of the hard work for you. We will give you the information that you need to find a great car, for the best price possible.
1. Shop Around: This is probably the most obvious and well known rule. You won’t know your options if you don’t take some time to look around. Thanks to the internet, this is now much easier and more convenient to do then in the past.
It is best to compare car prices and terms of local car dealers. This can be done online and in person. If you are willing to drive a bit, check out what dealers are offering in other cities or states. Another great way to secure a good deal is to get pre-qualified this gives you greater leverage when haggling with car sales persons. They understand that you already have the backing of a lending institution and that you are ready to do business.
2. Buy Used: Unless you just have to have a new car, it often best to purchase a used car. This is because cars depreciate so fast, it doesn’t make great financial sense to buy them new. Instead, you can get great deals for used cars. You can also pay them off faster because they are generally much cheaper.
3. Be Sure That Your Car is Fuel Efficient: A good way to save on your car long term is to get a fuel efficient car. The less money that you have to spend on filling up your tank can go into your pocket.
4. Forget Leasing: Leasing can be incredibly expensive if you go over your pre-determined limit for miles. Some owners of leased cars end up paying $.25 per extra mile. Many people underestimate this and end up paying hefty penalties.
5. Save for a Down Payment: Saving up for a down payment is one way that you can secure greater terms and lower monthly payments for your new car.
With the slowing economy, and a housing market in the dumps, it is more important then ever to find the very best deals possible when looking for a new car. There are several ways to accomplish this. They include buying a used car, avoiding leasing due to potential, expensive penalties that will be levied if you go over mileage. You also need to purchase a fuel efficient car. You will also want to save up for a down payment. Putting a down payment on your car will ensure that you get lower monthly payments and most likely a lower interest rate. Being sure to shop around and comparing rates and terms, will ensure that you get the best deal possible and won’t have buyers regret, soon after your purchase.
Switch to a Hybrid – More Then One Reason
July 31, 2008
Hybrids have been very popular the past couple years and lots of people seem to be getting involved with this car industry and are looking at them as there next vehicle. The environmental benefits of using a hybrid are very impressive and in a world where we currently need to work on making the environment a safer place, hybrids seem like a great start. A hybrid vehicle runs on alternative gas so it doesn’t affect the atmosphere with all the pollutants that your typical car makes.
Gas is also continuing to rise in price by quite a bit and in fact it doesn’t appear to anyone including the professionals that the gas price is going to drop any. With this in mind a lot of people are deciding that hybrids are now worth the investment and although the environmentally friendliness of the car should be enough to sway people it wasn’t. The initial investment is a little steep for some people to make but now that gas is on the rise a lot of people are considering switching to a hybrid.
The last benefit that’s being implemented currently to entice people to use hybrids is through the car insurance companies. Most car insurance companies have already begun implementing 10% discounts on car insurance if you drive a hybrid. Now this quite a steep number in most people’s monthly payments so there is now quite a few solid reasons why you should switch to a hybrid.
A lot of the car manufacturers have begun making models of their most popular vehicles in the hybrid form so now your options are beginning to open up. When hybrids first came out there were only small compact cars that nobody wanted except the environmentalists. Now companies like Ford are making their versions of the Escalade in hybrid form. So you can still drive around in your favorite vehicle except now you can help save the environment and also save on gas.
All of these benefits will surely pay off the investment of your hybrid car purchase, as they are only around 20K. If you write down how much you’d save by not paying gas each year and also the 10% insurance discount then you’ll soon realize that within only four to five years you could have the hybrid paid off in full through your savings. If you can manage the initial investment then there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t already have switched to a hybrid and you should definitely consider the savings you would be entitled to if you made the switch. Hybrids will most likely rise a bit in price as they become more mainstream so you should definitely consider getting into a hybrid while the prices are still at their beginning stages. I believe by 2010 a decent part of the American population will be driving hybrids and I also think that the price will be higher. You should get into the market while it’s still not mainstream while the prices remain considerably lower then expected.
Where to Buy a Car
July 31, 2008
Buying a car is a fairly big decision and you should have a basic understanding of what you need to know before beginning the car hunt. You will also want to write down what you’re looking for in a car, for instance do you want two doors or four doors? There are a lot of questions that you need to ask yourself before you’re ready to make the purchase but once you have decided on what you want in your car then you can begin searching.
When you begin the hunt for your car you should check both online and offline resources, typically though you’ll find better deals online. There are a lot of websites that are set-up to run car auctions and lots of people participate in these auctions. You can find your dream car by looking through these auction sites and often you’ll pick up a vehicle cheaper then expected. Many motivated sellers seek online auction sites to list their cars and often you’ll get the bang for your buck if you use an auction site.
Offline resources such as auto trader magazines and newspapers can offer great cars for sale as well and so can junkyards. You should spend a weekend driving around your local region and check out all the junkyards for any cars that are there that need minimal work. You’ll get cheap prices at the junkyard but most times you need to put a bit work into getting the car running properly. Auto trader magazines usually are published monthly and list all the cars for sale in the month, again here you can find motivated sellers looking to just to get rid of their vehicles and you can find great bargains here.
If you want a new car then the best place to start your search is the local car dealerships, this will cost a lot more but if you’d like a new car it’s your best bet. You can sometimes bargain a little bit with the dealerships so try your best at reasoning the price down as best you can before confirming a purchase. Act like a hard sale and some dealerships will knock down prices to get your business.
There are tons of places where you can buy a car and depending on what your budget is and whether you want new or used will determine where you start your hunt. It can take a little while to find the right car at the right price so never rush into buying something and you should preferably have the car checked if it’s a used vehicle because sometimes things can be wrong that you wouldn’t spot out without being a professional. Even if you need to pay somebody to come with you and check out the used car before buying it, it would be worth it because most car problems cost quite a bit to fix. You don’t want to deal with having to fix a car after just buying it either which is another reason why you should have it checked out before making the purchase.
How to Parallel Park
July 31, 2008
When you first start driving it’s pretty straightforward and basic, and shouldn’t take long to get the controls down to a science. One thing that even veteran drivers have a problem doing is parallel parking, which trust me isn’t as hard as it seems. Most people are intimidated by having to even consider parallel parking and a lot of people will find another parking lot if it means saving them from parallel parking. Most regions this will be fine but when you’re in a downtown of a metropolitan area you’d be lucky to find a parking spot period, which means if it means you need to parallel park you better make sure you know how. I would recommend that to get rid of some of the nerves you practice in an empty parking lot using cones. If you hit a cone then you know you would have hit a car so it can make great practice. All you need to do is set-up the cones so that they would make the same distance as a car would and then you can begin practicing. First you’ll probably want to know how to parallel park which is most likely why you’re reading this article so lets get down to teaching you how to parallel park.
The most important thing about parallel parking is confidence, you don’t need much skill other then the basics of driving which you should know if you’re driving. The problem is a lot of people feel parallel parking is a whole new world of driving and when they think about it they become scared and lose all confidence whatsoever. When this happens you will be more prone to actually hitting a vehicle then if you were to take a deep breath and think about what you needed to do in the situation at hand.
In order you should follow these tips if you’re not quite sure how to parallel park.
Make sure the first thing you do is turn on your signal light in the direction of the parking space so that traffic behind you knows that you’re going to be parking.
When beginning to approach the parking spot makes sure your back bumper is inline with the back bumper of the car parked in front of the parking spot you want.
Allow for roughly two feet of space between your car and the car beside you and begin reversing, once the car starts reversing turn your wheel as much as it can go towards the curb.
Continue reversing slowly until the back of your front door reaches the back bumper of the car in front of your parking spot and then turn the wheel as far it can go away from the curb.
Now all you need to do is continue turning the wheel away from the curb and reversing slowly until into the parking spot.
Once you’re done getting reversed into the parking space you can now pull forward a bit to center yourself with the rest of the cars.
Ideally once you’ve finished this you should be roughly six inches from the curb so that you’re not sticking out into traffic as you don’t want to lose a mirror.

Healthy Driving Big Topic in Canada
July 31, 2008
A huge topic that is being widely discussed right now in many parts of the world but mainly in Canada right now is to make driving healthier. For all of you smokers out there this will affect you deeply and I feel it’s sort of entering a restriction zone on people’s rights. Now I feel that it’s everyone’s right to smoke if they want as it’s their health and although it harms others just as much I don’t feel the new law that is being proposed is fair.
The law is suppose to ban smoking in cars with children, now if you’re driving with your children I feel you have the right to smoke in your car, but many government officials are now starting to say they want to pass this law as quickly as possible.
Smoking is very bad for children’s health and they are a lot more susceptible to actually taking in second hand smoke then an adult, and while there organs are still developing it can be very unhealthy. I don’t think that banning smoking in cars is going to help though.
I can understand when smoking is banned in public places but when it’s your own vehicle then I don’t think there should be a ban allowed to be placed on this. If you’re a smoker this could be the chance to finally quit smoking because by the looks of it you won’t be allowed smoking outside of your own home shortly.
There are lots of ways I also like this law though because many people want to quit smoking but don’t have the will power. I feel that if they start getting a couple tickets for smoking in their car then they might reconsider smoking at all. The ban is coming in time for the summer travelers because the worst thing for children to breath in the whole way to the cottage is hot smoggy second hand smoke. If you plan on traveling this summer you’ll definitely need to make sure that the smoking ban isn’t in affect where you’ll be because if it is make sure that you’re not caught smoking with children because it will be a fine.
The law will definitely make some non-smoking parent happier to see that something is being done about the polluted air everyone has to breathe in. Children who are old enough to realize what is going on will also I’m sure be very happy with the new law. Most children hate when their parents smoke in the car, and I know I always I did when I was a kid but there was nothing preventing them at the time. Now with this new ban taking affect in different regions we will be able to see how this works.
I still don’t think a lot of people will be happy with this new ban because it sort of is taking away space that they own. Well just need to wait and see if anything big comes from this newly discussed topic.
Worst Thing You Can Do While Driving
July 31, 2008
Now there are lots of things that come to many of our minds when we begin to think about the worst things you can do while driving, and although some rank near each other at the top there is definitely a clear cut winner in my opinion. Now you may think that not knowing how to drive would be the worst thing that a driver can do but well frankly you shouldn’t be driving if you don’t know how so that’s not the answer to the question.
If you begin to think of the next logical answer most people would then think of getting into an accident, which now you’re getting on the right path. The one thing worst then getting in the accident though is leaving the scene of an accident which can cause for jail time. Now you’ll only be charge if the accident were to happen on the road, but if it happens on private property to a parked car then you don’t need to worry about getting charged.
The one thing you need to worry about the most though is whether or not you’ll face fines for leaving the scene of an accident. It also looks a lot worse when you get caught for it and often times the person will be very angry if their car is damaged and you don’t say anything and just leave. Most times the person will make you put the damages through your insurance which for something of that nature would make it go up by a couple thousand dollars each year which is terribly high. The only way you can get out of the insurance situation is if the person you hit is willing to let you pay for the damages with cash or a check.
You need to always make sure that no matter the reason you hit the car you need to always remain at the scene and find out whose car it is that you damaged. You’ll stand a lot better chance at making sure you can try and have it paid with cash instead of going through insurance, and it also shows you had the initiative to face the music once you did something wrong. Leaving the scene will only result in more problems because nowadays there are cameras everywhere and you definitely won’t be able to get away with any type of accident in a parking lot. If you hit a car while driving and leave then you’re just completely out of luck because once they find you then you’ll be charged and most likely have to spend some time behind bars which can be absolutely brutal.
The best thing to do is always remain calm and if you do in fact get into accident realize it’s not the end of the world and you need to stay at the scene. If you stay at the scene then often everything can be worked out without the need for getting charged with leaving the scene of an accident. That is not a charge taken lightly and you could face fines and jail time if you get caught doing that.
Saving Fuel
July 31, 2008
With rising costs of fuel there are tons of people that are currently looking to save fuel anyway that they possibly can and there are actually quite a few great methods that are already being implemented by thousands of people. The environment is being harmed as well so not only are you losing money with the rising cost of fuel but you’re also making the environment worse then it already is. Now there are quite a few methods that you can use to conserve your fuel while driving around but a lot of people don’t even consider listening to them. I hope that with rising fuel costs more people start to think of how to either save or eliminate fuel from their lives.
The first way to eliminate fuel completely is probably the most known method and most expensive and that would to switch into a hybrid vehicle. Now although the upfront costs don’t seem justifiable if you add up how much you spend on your gas a year then you would notice that a hybrid will pay itself off within only a few short years, and they last a lot longer then that so your investment is definitely worth it. A lot of people can’t see spending the money upfront but now there are many perks being offered for people to switch including anything from cash backs to discounted car insurance.
Another way to eliminate fuel is by using water to power your car, now you may think I sound crazy but it’s rather simple for you to be able to run your car on water. If you need to save money with the rising cost of gas then you can buy a kit that will convert your car to water powered for like $50 online and then you’ll no longer be using as much gas.
If you want to eliminate fuel loss then you should try driving a standard car because automatic transmissions tend to burn a lot of gas for no reason whereas if you drive a standard properly you can save a ton of your gas. You can gain up to 25% efficiency on your gas just by changing your driving style a little bit. You should try switching gears early to avoid high RPM’s which in turn will help you save gas.
There are tons of methods on how you can conserve fuel and as you can see some of these methods are very creative and I feel that more will be entering the market in the next few years. Technology is always improving and there is lots of work being done on fuel efficiency and alternate fuels right now which makes me believe that they don’t want to stop yet until more cars stop running on gas. The environment needs a cleaner place to start becoming better, and we all need to start putting money back into our pockets instead of the deep pockets of the fuel companies which seem to show no mercy.
Tips For Driving Manual Transmission
July 31, 2008
If you decide to buy a manual transmission vehicle then you’ll need to learn how to drive it because it’s a lot different then driving your regular automatic transmission vehicle. There are many things you need to learn and you should find someone you know who you can practice with in order to learn. Once you’ve learned how to drive manual transmission then you should also make sure to keep some tips in the back of your mind in case you run into problems. This article will outline some of the problems that arise and tips you should remember to prevent these problems from ever occurring.
When you park your car and it’s a manual transmission you should park the car in gear and then apply your parking brake. The reason you park it in gear rather then in neutral is to prevent it from rolling when you start it again. When in your driveway if you have room for allowing it to roll a little bit then I would park it in neutral but when on a hill or near other cars keep it in gear.
The ways to ensure you have your manual transmission in the right gear when driving is when it’s smooth and there isn’t any sputtering. If your car is sputtering then you need to switch your transmission to a lower gear and it you hear a very high pitched noise then you need to knock it down a gear or two. Try always making sure that you have it in the right gear and running smoothly without any noises.
The last thing you should always try avoiding is keeping the clutch down when riding around. At traffic lights place the car into neutral and let off of the clutch, as it wears your needle down and causes problems quickly.
If you can follow these simple tips then driving a manual transmission will soon become as simple as riding around in an automatic transmission. If you don’t follow these tips then your car will soon wear down very quickly and you’ll be replacing and fixing parts far more then you need to be and you should make sure that you avoid this at all costs or else it will cost you. A manual transmission is a lot more fun to drive I find and many of the sports cars nowadays are manual transmissions so it’s important to know how to drive a manual car.
The best way to learn is through the help of a family member or friend who already knows how to drive a manual transmission. You should go with them to an empty parking lot and practice there, so that you don’t hit anyone and so that you don’t look like a fool on the road. Once you have it down to a science you’ll be able to take your manual car out onto the roads. It shouldn’t take you long to get use to a manual transmission as long as you can follow a few simple rules.
Getting A Ticket In A Rental Car: Are There Additional Fees Or Fines?
July 31, 2008
When driving a rental car, there is a question that looms in the mind of the renter. One of those questions is, “What happens if I get a ticket?” That is a very good question because the car is not in the renter’s name. The car is in the name of the rental car company. This means things can get a bit complicated, depending on the company that you’re using. Sure, it is simple to say that you just shouldn’t do anything to get a ticket. However, it isn’t always that easy.
Getting the ticket
So let’s say you get a parking ticket. You didn’t mean to. You just simply didn’t see a sign or parked at a parking meter and forgot to pay it. So you go home, write a check, and mail the payment for your ticket to the city. However, you find a couple weeks later that you receive a letter from the rental car company telling you the ticket has not been paid. You know you paid it, so you call the city and they tell you that they received the payment. You then call the rental car company and you find out that they will charge a fee to you for you having to pass their contact information to the city that has issued you the ticket. This is because it is then on their record that one of their cars received a parking ticket. The catch to this is the fact that the officer issuing the ticket has to take down the VIN and license plate numbers on the car, which are registered under the rental car company.
Sometimes, the only way a fee is assessed is if the car rental company pays the fee and then they pass on the cost to the customer. However, in an instance where you pay the ticket and the car rental company contacts you, chances are they have not checked to see if the ticket was paid. These companies receive thousands of tickets per day and do not have the manpower to check if each and every ticket was paid. When the municipality that issued the ticket contacts the rental car company about a citation, they automatically assume that the ticket was not paid. Sometimes you can fax a receipt from the original payment to the car rental company to have your money refunded. However, the car rental company will charge a fee.
If you receive a speeding ticket, then the penalty is against you and not the car you are driving. Your personal driver’s license is involved. The police do check the plates to ensure everything is in check, but it is you who has to pay the penalty and not the car rental company. In fact, the car rental company may not be notified that such a citation occurred in one of their cars. The only way is if something happens you do not pay your fine. If the car rental company has to get involved in that case, then you can expect some kind of additional cost.
Exceptions
There are no exceptions to parking tickets, but the one exception regarding a speeding ticket being against you and not the car is in the case you are caught speeding on camera. If the camera catches you speeding, the authorities use the license plate number to find out where to send the ticket. The rental car company gets the ticket. They may pay it, but will pass the cost and a fee on to you for taking care of it. Yes, it is good to be careful, but it is also good to know how you can be ticketed in a rental car just in case it happens to you.
